Preaching Reimagined

Preaching is under attack. There are those who think that preaching is not important. They say that it has lost being revenant.

The attack today on God and his word comes from those who call themselves Christians. It comes from those who call themselves emergent. Leading the attack today is a man named Doug Pagitt. By attacking the role of God's word and doing away with preaching the emerging church finally has a way to pull the wool over eyes. Once you step away from scripture, you open yourself to all kinds of trouble.

Doug starts with a warning cry that pastors and spreachers pose a danger to the church. He tells us to re-image preaching but in the process reinvents preaching. progressional dialogue we are told is the way to understand God. We are told that progressional dialogue should be the new form of preaching. He exalts dialogue over Biblical exposition. He puts man and mans thoughts above those of God and his word.

Many in the Emergent Church say the say thing. Let's see what God's word says.

You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness, my persecutions and sufferings that happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra--which persecutions I endured; yet from them all the Lord rescued me. Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God[b] may be competent, equipped for every good work. I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Progressional Dialogue? A conversation and discussion? Go ahead try and talk back to God and see what he has to say to you? He has delivered the truth once and for all and is not interested in your thoughts on the matter. He wants your obedience. Get to work!
